Are You a Paper Hoarder Too? (No Shame Here!)
Let’s be real—if you’re a paper crafter, chances are very high you’ve got a stash of beautiful Designer Series Paper that you’re “saving for something special.” Sound familiar? Yep, I see you nodding! I’m the same way. I adore patterned paper and somehow always end up with way more than I can use (but I need it all, right?).
So this week on my Live video, I challenged myself to actually use one of those gorgeous 12″ x 12″ sheets—and the result was a sweet birthday card with a fun surprise inside: a pop-out panel that’s easier to create than you might think! (Video is linked below).
This card was made for a dear friend’s birthday, and I wanted it to feel extra special. I reached for the stunning new Florals in Bloom Designer Series Paper from the brand-new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. Paired with the Sweet Blooms Bundle and Pretty Florals Dies, it all came together beautifully.
Here’s what makes this card a standout:
- The base is Petunia Pop—a vibrant, playful purple that practically sings on a birthday card.
- I accordion-folded the Designer Series Paper to create the pop-out mechanism inside (it’s a simple fold with big impact).
- The floral elements were stamped in Petunia Pop and Granny Apple Green, die cut, and arranged on a stitched white circle using the Stylish Shapes Dies.
- The sentiment? I stamped and fussy cut it for that handmade, heartfelt touch.
- But the real magic happens inside…
- I created a pop-out greeting using layered die cuts: a solid background in Petunia, the delicate detailed words in Basic White (with Self-Adhesive Sheets for no-fuss gluing), and more stamped words to finish it off. The pop-out panel is sized just right so it stays hidden until the card is opened—hello, surprise!
- For the finishing sparkle, I added a few Starburst Sequins. I love how the shimmer plays off the bold Petunia Pop color—it just makes everything shine.
