Looking for a sweet and simple birthday card that still feels special? This one starts with a basic Notecard and ends with sparkle, texture, and a beautiful butterfly focal point. It’s quick to make, beginner-friendly, and easy to personalize with colors you love.
I shared this project in my “Now What Do I Do with All These Supplies?!” Live class—part 2 of my Cardmaking 101 Series. It’s a great example of how just a few simple tools and techniques can take your card from basic to beautiful.
- I started with a Basic White Notecard—a staple I always recommend for beginners.
- The butterfly is stamped in Petunia Pop ink, then shaded with Rich Razzleberry and Coastal Cabana watercolor pencils for a soft, layered look.
- I added a bit of Pool Party texture stamping around the butterfly to create a glowing effect—it’s subtle, but it really makes the butterfly pop.
- A strip of Beautiful Bokeh Designer Series Paper brings in more pattern and color.
- The sentiment is stamped on a 1/2″ Basic White strip and popped up for dimension.
- I tied a small Linen Thread bow for some natural texture.
- And of course—iridescent adhesive-backed discs for that final bit of shine!
This card is one of four featured in my latest beginner-friendly class using the Beautiful Butterflies Bundle. If you’ve got a few supplies and aren’t quite sure how to start using them, this series was made with you in mind. Or you’re an experienced crafter looking for some ideas and inspiration, this is for you, too!
